The Rare Ones Who Have Seen

ਓਹੁ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਹਹਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਜੋਗੀਸੁਰ ॥
oh saroop santan kaheh virlay jogeesur.
How rare are those Saints and great Yogis, who describe the beautiful form of the Lord.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੇ ਧਨਿ ਧਨਿ ਤੇ ਈਸੁਰ ॥੩॥
kar kirpaa jaa ka-o milay Dhan Dhan tay eesur. ||3||
Blessed, blessed are they, whom the Lord meets in His Mercy. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

How rare are the deeply devoted ones who can describe the beautiful presence of the One.

When the One meets them in mercy, they are blessed and blessed again.

The ones who have seen are rare — and seeing comes to them as a gift.
The deeper layer

Only a few people can speak of how beautiful the One is, and they get there by grace.

Oh saroop santan kaheh — the holy ones describe the One's beautiful form. Virlay jogeesur — rare are such great Yogis. A Yogi is someone who trains body and mind to stay close to the One.

Kar kirpaa jaa ka-o milay — those whom the One meets in mercy. Dhan dhan tay — blessed, blessed are they. The meeting comes as a gift. Think of a surprise visit from someone you love. You did not make it happen; you simply opened the door. Grace is received, not achieved.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone whose calm or wisdom you would love to understand?
