Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are my mother, my father, my family, all in one — and You live inside everyone I will ever meet.

Nanak says: I seek God's shelter, whose praise is pure and makes the heart clean.

The One you love most is also inside everyone you meet.
The deeper layer

maat pitaa bandhap toohai, too sarab nivaas — the One as mother, father, family, living in all; naanak prabh sarnaagatee, jaa ko nirmal jaas — praise that cleanses. A tender naming of the One as every relation.

A Question to Sit With

Who feels like family to you, even beyond blood?
