Raag Devgandhaari
Commentary

Raag Devgandhaari, Shabad 7, Mehl 5 (Guru Arjan)

"In an instant, You establish and disestablish; the value of Your Almighty Creative Power cannot be estimated."

The Arc

The relief of cleverness dropping into trust (rahau); the mechanism of peace — erase self-conceit, take shelter, surrender, and doubt lifts (v.1); awe at the immeasurable creative power, held safely inside trust (v.2).

Key Vocabulary

  • chaturaaee / cleverness — the mind's exhausting scheming; its loss is liberation.
  • haumai / self-conceit — erased to enter sanctuary (see philosophy.md).
  • kudrat / creative power — the One's world-making force, immeasurable (see philosophy.md).

Themes and Cross-Connections

Cleverness-vs-trust echoes Aasaa B00C672 (cleverness vs. the Name) and Gauree's peace-of-trust. "Establish and disestablish in an instant" links to Kudrat and to Sukhmani's play (khayl). Awe-held-in-trust is the healthy Bhau (reverent awe) of philosophy.md.

For Raag Devgandhaari

Rounds out Guru Arjan's first seven with the theme of surrendered intelligence: the clever mind laid down, the vast power of the One met not with fear but with wondering trust.
