In plain words

The One is the nearest of the near.

Remember it, hold it in mind, and sing its wonder — day and night, evening and morning.

The thing you long for isn't far away — it's the closest thing of all. The whole task is just to keep remembering what was never actually absent.
The deeper layer

Nerai hee te nera — "the nearest of the near". This is the answer to all the longing the raag has voiced: what you ache toward is not far away, it is closer than anything. And so the practice is simply to keep noticing it — morning, evening, day, night. Remembrance is not summoning something distant; it is turning your attention to what was never absent. The soul strains across a gulf that isn't there. The whole spiritual task shrinks to this: remember what is already here, again and again, until you stop forgetting.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever searched everywhere for something that turned out to be right next to you the whole time?
