Sikhism·Raag Devgandhaari·Shabad 18
Verse 2 of 3

God is the nearest of the near.

audhar dheh dhulabh saadhoo sa(n)g har har naam japerai ||
Redeem your body in the invaluable Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
Do not delay for an instant, even for a moment. Death is keeping you constantly in his vision. ||1||

In plain words

Make your body worthwhile in the priceless company of the good, saying the Name.

Don't put it off, not for an instant — death keeps you always in its sight.

This life is precious and it doesn't last forever — so don't keep putting off the thing that truly matters. Not out of fear, just out of love for the time you have.
The deeper layer

A gentle urgency enters. "Don't delay" — not from fear-mongering, but from honesty: time is real, and "death keeps you in its vision" the way the horizon is always there. This is not meant to terrify but to focus. Knowing the day is finite is exactly what makes you spend it on what matters. The "priceless Sangat" is where the body is "redeemed" — made worthwhile — because there, in good company, the Name comes alive. The message is tender but firm, the way a loving parent might say: this life is precious and it doesn't last forever, so don't keep postponing the thing that actually matters.

A Question to Sit With

If you knew your time was precious and limited, what would you stop putting off?
