Through loving devotion, and singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, I have escaped the Path of Death. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

By grace the One made me its own and shattered the ropes of illusion.

Through loving devotion and singing the wonder of the One, I slipped past the path of death.

You don't break free from lesser things by fighting them — you fall in love with something greater, and their hold just melts away.
The deeper layer

"Escaped the path of death" is the same freedom the raag keeps circling: not exemption from dying, but release from death's dominion — its power to frighten and to feel like the end of everything. What breaks the "bonds of Maya" here is, once again, love — "loving devotion" (bhagti) and singing. The pattern repeats because it is the tradition's core insight: the ropes of forgetting are not cut by force but dissolved by a stronger affection. You don't defeat the lesser attachments; you fall in love with something greater, and the lesser ones simply lose their grip.

A Question to Sit With

Has loving something bigger ever made a smaller worry or habit just fade on its own?
