In plain words

I behold the life-giving sight of the saint; this is the meditation I have taken up.

The One has been kind to Nanak, and he has entered the shelter of the good.

Sometimes the deepest practice is just spending time near truly good people — taking in their goodness until it rubs off on you.
The deeper layer

This one says: being near good people is itself a kind of meditation.

ihai dhiaanaa dharanaa — this is the meditation I have taken up. What is it? Seeing a saint, a truly good person, and staying in their company. Guru Arjan keeps moving the sacred away from tricky methods and toward people. You don't need a special technique. You need to be near goodness. This is called Sat Sangat, the company of the good.

The "fruitful sight" of such a person, called darshan (a blessed seeing), is more than looking. It is receiving. You take in the way their life faces the One, and it slowly re-tunes yours. Think of sitting beside a friend who hums in tune. Before long, you are humming in tune too.

So meditation can be very simple. Spend time near what is truly good, until it rubs off on you. By the One's mercy, Nanak has come into that shelter.

A Question to Sit With

Who in your life makes you a little better just by being around them?
