In plain words

Place the teacher's feet within your heart,

and all illness, sorrow and pain will lift; every suffering will come to an end.

When you take the teaching and its humility deep into your heart and keep it there, the heaviest sufferings — the ones the mind carries — begin to lift.
The deeper layer

This one says: keep the teacher's lesson inside you, and your heart grows lighter.

gur ke charan ridhai paravesaa — place the Guru's feet within your heart. This happens inside. It is not about bowing with your body. It means taking the teaching, and its humility, into your heart and keeping it there. Like a favorite song you know by heart, it goes wherever you go.

From this, Guru Arjan promises that illness, sorrow and pain will lift. In this raag, read that healing broadly. The heaviest hurts are often the ones the heart carries: sadness, worry, and the ache of feeling far from the One. This is not saying bodies never get sick. It is a promise about the hurts that live in the mind, which are so often the heaviest of all.

A Question to Sit With

Which hurts more sometimes: something in your body, or something weighing on your heart? What helps the second kind?
