O mother, without the Guru, spiritual wisdom is not obtained.
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
When my One shows kindness, we lovingly rest our attention on the feet of the good.
The most terrible pains lift in an instant, Nanak, and we merge into the sight of the One.
The resolution is swift and merciful: "the most horrible agonies are dispelled in an instant." Not slowly, not after long penance — in an instant, when grace comes and the soul finds the company it needed. This speed is itself a teaching: the distance between suffering and relief is not a long road but a turning, a moment of grace landing. And the ending is merger again — "we merge in the Blessed Vision" — the soul dissolving into the very sight it longed for. The homeless wandering of the middle verse ends in the deepest possible belonging: not just finding a place to rest, but becoming one with what it rested toward.
Have you ever had a heavy feeling lift suddenly, in a moment, when the right help or person arrived?
