My Giver Is Forever New

ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਨੀਤ ਨਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saahib mayraa neet navaa sadaa sadaa daataar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
My Lord and Master is forever new; He is the Giver, forever and ever. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My Master is new every single day. The One never grows stale and never runs dry, and goes on giving, forever and ever.

The Giver is a fresh gift, new every day.
The deeper layer

The One who gives to us never gets old.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. It is the line you come back to between the verses. Saahib mayraa neet navaa — my Master is new every day. Think of fresh bread each morning, never yesterday's loaf. Things in the world grow old and dull. The One stays fresh in every moment.

Sadaa sadaa daataar, the Giver forever and ever, repeats the words of the opening verse. That ties the pause line back to the first frightened cry, and answers it.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that feels new and good to you each morning?
