Sikhism·Raag Dhanaasaree·Shabad 11
Verse 4 of 4

The Maker Who Gathers Us Home

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਸੋਇ ॥
aapay kartaa jug jug so-ay.
The Creator Himself abides throughout the ages.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
nadar karay maylaavaa ho-ay.
If He casts His Glance of Grace, then we meet Him.
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
gurbaanee tay har man vasaa-ay.
Through the Word of Gurbani, the Lord comes to dwell in the mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੪॥੩॥
naanak saach ratay parabh aap milaa-ay. ||4||3||
O Nanak, God unites with Himself those who are imbued with Truth. ||4||3||

In plain words

The Maker Himself is there through every age.

When the kind Glance falls, we meet. Through Gurbani the One comes to live in the mind, and those colored in Truth, the One gathers into Himself.

The One who made you is the same One who gathers you back home.
The deeper layer

The One who made us is the One who brings us home.

This verse closes the shabad. Aapay kartaa jug jug so-ay — the Creator is there through every age. Nadar karay maylaavaa ho-ay — when the Glance of Grace, the One's kind look, falls on us, the meeting happens.

Through gurbaanee, the Guru's Word, the One comes to live in the mind. Naanak saach ratay prabh aap milaa-ay — those soaked in Truth, the One joins to Himself. The meeting is the One's own doing. It is like a parent at the school gate, spotting you in the crowd and calling you home.

A Question to Sit With

When you have felt far from something you love, what helped bring you back?
