Says Ravi Daas: placing my hopes in You, I live; it is so long since I have gazed upon the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||2||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I would give anything, everything, just to be near You. So why do You stay so quiet? I keep listening for You.
For a long, long time it has felt like we were apart — but this whole life, I give to You. I stay alive on hope, waiting for the day I finally see You clearly.
Longing that keeps hoping is itself a kind of nearness.
ha-o bal bal jaa-o — I am a sacrifice, again and again. aas lag jeeva-o — I live by holding on to hope. The ache of longing, the very heart of Dhanaasaree, is voiced here as trust rather than despair; chir bha-i-o darsan daykhay — it has been so long since the sight.
A Question to Sit With
Is there something you are still hoping for that keeps you going even in the waiting?
