Hail to You, Lord, hail to You! Again and again, hail to You, Lord King, Ruler of all! ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Joy, joy to You, my Lord! A song of joy rises up, simply because You are.

Every day it comes back fresh: joy to the One, the King who cares for all with a kind and steady hand.

Sometimes the truest prayer is simply joy that the One is.
The deeper layer

Joy rises up simply because the One is.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Manglaa har manglaa — joy, joy to the One! A mangal is a song of happy welcome, the kind sung at a celebration. And nit mangal means the gladness comes back fresh every day, like the morning.

Here praise is not a request. It is an overflow. It is like laughing when you see someone you love. You are not asking for anything. The joy just spills out.

A Question to Sit With

When was the last time you felt glad for no reason except that things simply are?
