In plain words

Serving the Guru, a person grows clean and clear. The Naam comes to live inside, and that person's honor rises.

Those turned to the Guru are carried to safety in the One's shelter. Colored in the Name, they hold to devotion. Devotion brings greatness. Dyed in Truth, they rest in easy peace.

Turning toward the teaching clears the heart the way clean water clears mud.
The deeper layer

Serving the Guru makes a person clean and clear inside.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Gur sayvaa tay jan nirmal ho-ay — by serving the Guru, a person becomes nirmal, spotless. The Name comes to live inside. Then pat ootam ho-ay — one's honor is lifted. This is the same true honor named earlier in the raag.

The verse goes on. Gurmukh ubray har sarnaa-ee — the gurmukh, the person who faces the Guru, is carried to safety in the One's shelter. Saach ratay sukh sahj samaa-ay — dyed in Truth, they rest in sahj, an easy, natural peace. It is like cloth soaked in dye. The color goes all the way through.
