The Name Whose Worth Cannot Be Counted

ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
Dhanaasree mehlaa 3.
Dhanaasaree, Third Mehl:
ਨਾਵੈ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
naavai kee keemat mit kahee na jaa-ay.
The value and worth of the Lord's Name cannot be described.
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਿਨ ਇਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
say jan Dhan jin ik naam liv laa-ay.
Blessed are those humble beings, who lovingly focus their minds on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
gurmat saachee saachaa veechaar.
True are the Guru's Teachings, and True is contemplative meditation.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
aapay bakhsay day veechaar. ||1||
God Himself forgives, and bestows contemplative meditation. ||1||

In plain words

The worth of the Name is so great that no one can add it up or put a price on it.

Lucky are the ones who set their whole heart on it. True teaching and true reflection are a gift, freely given — no one earns them, they are handed over out of kindness.

The best things cannot be priced, only received.
The deeper layer

The Name is worth more than anyone could ever count.

Naavai kee keemat mit kahee na jaa-ay — no one can say how much the Name is worth or measure it. It is like trying to put a price tag on the sky.

Say jan Dhan — blessed are those who fix their love on the one Name. That steady love is called liv, like a compass needle that keeps turning back to north.

Then look closely at the last line: aapay bakhsay day veechaar. The One forgives and gives us veechaar, deep thinking. So even the power to reflect deeply is a gift. Grace, gurprasad, is always there. We receive it. We do not achieve it.

A Question to Sit With

What is something wonderful in your life that you did nothing to earn?
