Friends, Let Us Walk the Teaching's Path

ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਮੀਤ ਚਲਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਚਾਲੀ ॥

O Sikhs of the Guru, O friends, walk on the Guru's Path.

Whatever the Guru says, accept that as good; the sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, is unique and wonderful. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

Sikhs of the Guru, my friends, walk the Guru's path.

Take the Guru's word as good — the story of the One is unlike anything else, wondrous and fresh.

The road is easier and gladder when you walk it with friends.
The deeper layer

Friends, let's walk the Guru's path together, and trust what the teaching says.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. It is spoken friend to friend. Gursikh meet chalhu gur chaalee — Sikhs of the Guru, my friends, walk the Guru's path. It feels like a group of friends walking to school together.

Jo gur kahai so-ee bhal maanhu — whatever the Guru says, take it as good. This is mannai, inner agreement. It is not blind obeying. It is trusting the teaching enough to live it.

Kathaa niraalee — the story of the One is wonderful, unlike any other.

A Question to Sit With

Who is a friend you would want beside you on something hard and important?
