Keep the Naam in mind, my heart, and you will be wholly at peace.
Praising the One is the highest thing of all, and serving the One sets you free.
The One — a treasure of kindness — blessed me, and through the Guru I was given a heart that loves the One.
My many worries slipped away, I hold the Name in my heart, and the One has become my friend and companion.
Keep the Name close, and peace fills you all the way through.
This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Jap man naam haree hohi sarab sukhee — keep the Name in mind, my heart, and be wholly at peace. Sarab sukhee means peace in every part of you.
The end of the verse is tender. Baho chint visaaree — many worries forgotten. Chint means worry. Then naanak har bha-ay hai sakhaa-ee — the One has become my friend. Sakhaa means companion. The One is not a far-off ruler. The One is more like the friend who sits beside you on the school bus every day.
What is a worry you could set down today, at least for a little while?
