In plain words

My mind has fallen in love with You, my dear One.

Gentle with the humble, You reached out with kindness, and the five restless pulls inside me — anger, greed, and the others that tug us around — grew quiet under Your care.

When the heart fills up with love for the One, the restless pulls inside grow quiet on their own.
The deeper layer

When the mind falls in love with the One, the restless pulls inside go quiet.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Mayraa man laagaa hai raam pi-aaray — my mind is held by my beloved One. Deen da-i-aal means kind to the humble. It is one of Guru Arjan's favorite names for the One.

Vas keenay panch dootaaray — the five enemies were brought under control. These are the five inner thieves: craving, anger, greed, clinging, and pride. They are not beaten by force. They simply settle once the mind falls in love with something bigger. It is like a noisy classroom that goes quiet when a favorite teacher walks in.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel loved, do the small angry or grabby feelings get quieter too?
