Know it well, that anyone who loves any other than God, shall be miserable forever.

Says Nanak, the Guru has explained this to me, that love for God brings lasting bliss. ||4||2||

In plain words

A heart that pours all its love only into things that fade will always end up aching for more.

The Teacher showed me this: love turned toward the One brings a joy that lasts and lasts.

Love aimed at what lasts gives a joy that does not run out.
The deeper layer

Love the One, and the joy never runs out.

The shabad ends by saying its lesson plainly. Love aimed only at things that pass leaves the heart duhaylaa, restless and aching. But pareet parabhoo — love for the One — is sad kaylaa, joy that lasts forever.

Loving only what fades is like a phone stuck at five percent, always hunting for a charger. Love for the One is like being plugged in for good.

This is not a threat. It is an invitation: aim your heart where the joy does not run out.

A Question to Sit With

What is a joy you have felt that did not fade away afterward?
