In plain words

Working for the Teacher, serving, and living by the Teacher's guidance — all of it feels good and right to me.

The One who lifted me beyond the fear of death — to that Teacher I give my whole self in thanks.

When the teaching becomes something you love, serving it feels like freedom.
The deeper layer

Living the Teacher's way feels like joy, and it ends in thanks.

gur kee tahal guroo kee sayvaa gur kee aagi-aa — working for the Teacher, serving the Teacher, following the Teacher's word. These are three ways of saying one thing: shaping your life around the teaching. The key word is bhaanee, truly pleasing. When it pleases you and is not forced, serving becomes a joy. It is like helping cook for someone you love. It does not feel like a chore.

The shabad ends in thanks. The Teacher carried the heart past its fear of death. tis gur kai kurbaanee — to that Teacher I give my whole self.

A Question to Sit With

What is a task that stops feeling like a chore once you care about it?
