Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
My soul has found its rest in the One, and in nothing else.
People try a thousand other ways, but next to this they are worth almost nothing. The Naam is a priceless jewel the Guru placed in my hands — it can never be lost or shaken loose. It stays, and with it I am completely full.
The soul is full with the One alone.
This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. jee-a kee aykai hee peh maanee — my soul is satisfied with the One alone. People try many other ways, but next to this they are worth very little.
The next verse says why. The amrit naam — the Name, sweet as nectar — is a nirmolak heeraa, a jewel no money could buy. The Teacher gave it as mantaanee, loving advice. Most things can be lost, like a phone left on a bus. This jewel is different. digai na dolai — it does not fall and it does not wobble. It stays, and so the heart is full.
What is something valuable to you that could never be dropped or taken away?
