He alone comes to have it, whom the Guru blesses with this Ambrosial Nectar. ||1||

In plain words

Nothing a person runs after in this world can compare to this one sweetness.

And it comes to rest only with the one whom the Teacher blesses with it.

The best thing there is cannot be chased down — it is received.
The deeper layer

Nothing we chase can compare to the sweetness the Teacher gives.

lavai na laagan ka-o hai kachhoo-ai — nothing even comes close. Whatever the mind Dhaavai, runs after, falls short. Think of all the toys and games you once wanted so badly. Most of them ended up at the back of a cupboard.

This sweetness is amrit, the nectar that never dies. And it is given, not grabbed. jaa ka-o gur deeno ih amrit — the one to whom the Teacher gives this nectar is the one who comes to have it.

A Question to Sit With

Is there something good that came to you as a gift rather than something you chased?
