Is there anyone who can release me from my bondage, unite me with God, recite the Name of the Lord, Har, Har,

and make this mind steady and stable, so that it no longer wanders around? ||1||

In plain words

Is there someone who can loosen what binds me, bring me close to the One, and speak the Name to me?

Is there someone who can help this restless mind grow still, so it stops wandering off?

Knowing what your heart needs is the first step toward finding it.
The deeper layer

Some questions are prayers in disguise.

The shabad opens with a longing question. BanDhan tay chhutkaavai parabhoo milaavai — is there anyone who can set me free and bring me to the One? Asthir karay nihchal ih manoo-aa — who can make this mind steady, so it stops wandering? Asthir means steady, like a table that does not wobble.

This is the ache of a heart that knows what it needs, but not yet who can give it. Think of being lost in a new city with a dead phone. You know you need a way home. You just do not know whom to ask. Asking the question is already a kind of prayer.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you wish a good friend or guide could help you with?
