Nanak begs for the gift of Your Name; O Lord of the world, love him, like the mother loves her child. ||3||14||

In plain words

The One is the treasure of all goodness, gentle and kind, the source of every comfort.

I ask for just one gift — Your Name — hold me the way a mother holds her child.

The friend the heart was looking for turns out to be the One who already holds it.
The deeper layer

The friend the shabad was looking for is the One.

Gun niDhaan da-i-aal purakh parabh — the One is the treasure of all goodness, kind and giving. Da-i-aal means kind. The search for a friend ends here.

Now the request shrinks to a single thing. Maagai daan naam tayro — I ask only for the gift of Your Name. Then the shabad closes with ji-o maataa baal, like a mother and her child. That picture comes back again and again in these shabads. Think of a baby reaching up with both arms. The baby does not ask for anything fancy. It just wants to be held. That is the prayer here.

A Question to Sit With

When you look for help, is it sometimes closer and kinder than you expected?
