The Mul Mantra, the Root Mantra, is the only cure for the mind; I have installed faith in God in my mind.
ਚਰਨ ਰੇਨ ਬਾਂਛੈ ਨਿਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਪੁਨਹ ਪੁਨਹ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿਆ ॥੨॥੧੬॥
charan rayn baaNchhai nit naanak punah punah balihaari-aa. ||2||16||
Nanak ever longs for the dust of the Lord's feet; again and again, he is a sacrifice to the Lord. ||2||16||

In plain words

The Root Song — the very first words that name the One — is the true medicine for a restless mind, and in it I have set my trust.

I long each day only to be near, humble at the One's feet, giving thanks again and again.

The oldest words that name the One can be medicine for a restless mind.
The deeper layer

The Root Song is medicine for a restless mind.

a-ukhaDh mantar mool man aykai — the Mool Mantar, the root words, is the one medicine for the mind. The Mool Mantar is the opening of Gurbani, the Guru's Word. It begins with Ik Onkar, "there is One." Here those great opening words become a healing you carry in your heart, like a favorite song you hum when you feel upset.

The one praying sets their trust in the One. They ask only for charan rayn, the dust of the feet. That means being near, and being humble. And they give thanks punah punah, again and again.
