Break my bonds, and take me as Your own, so that I may never come to lose. ||1||

In plain words

Be gentle with me, and lift away the pull of feeling divided — the sense that I am cut off and on my own.

Loosen the knots that hold me tight, make me Your own, and I will never lose.

When you stop feeling cut off and separate, the deepest kind of loss disappears.
The deeper layer

Feeling cut off from the One is where restlessness grows, and the One can lift that feeling away.

Dutee-aa bhaa-o — the love of two-ness, of feeling separate. It is the sense that I am cut off and on my own. That feeling is the root of restlessness.

The singer asks for it to be removed, and for the banDhan, the bonds, to be cut. It is like untying the knots in a tangled kite string, so the kite can fly again. To be untied is to be gathered back into oneness. There, kabhoo na aavah haar — losing is no longer possible.

A Question to Sit With

When do you feel most connected to the people and world around you?
