When the World Feels Like Too Much

ਅਗਨਿ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਾਗਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥
agan kutamb saagar sansaar.
Family and worldly affairs are an ocean of fire.
ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧਾਰ ॥੧॥
bharam moh agi-aan anDhaar. ||1||
Through doubt, emotional attachment and ignorance, we are enveloped in darkness. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Family cares and the busy world can feel like an ocean that burns — heavy and overwhelming.

Doubt, clinging, and not-knowing can make everything seem dim, as if a fog has rolled in.

Naming what feels heavy is the first step toward setting it down.
The deeper layer

Life's cares can feel like a burning sea, and those are exactly the moments to call on the One.

Agan kutamb saagar sansaar — family cares and the busy world are an ocean of fire. Picture the heat and noise of a crowded day that never stops. Bharam moh agi-aan anDhaar — doubt, clinging, and not-knowing are a darkness. Moh means clinging, holding on too tight.

These words are said honestly, and they condemn no one. They name the very feelings the prayer is meant to meet.

A Question to Sit With

What is one worry that sometimes feels bigger than it is?
