So I held on to the support of the One who cherishes the whole world.
I stepped into the shelter of the complete One, and all my tangles came undone.
Heaven, earth, the worlds below and this whole globe are all caught up in the glitter of passing things.
Holding the One in mind lifts your own heart and blesses everyone connected to you.
In the One's shelter, every tangle comes loose.
This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Saran pari-o pooran parmaysur binsay sagal janjaal — I took shelter with the complete One, and all my tangles came undone. Janjaal means tangles, the knots life ties us in. Think of a knotted necklace. Pulling hard only makes it worse. Laid down gently in a calm place, it can be worked loose.
Then the verse widens the view to every realm. Surag mirat pa-i-aal bhoo mandal sagal bi-aapay maa-ay — heaven, earth, the worlds below and this whole globe are all caught up in maa-i-aa, the pull of things that pass. The way out is remembering the One: jee-a uDhaaran sabh kul taaran. It lifts your own soul and carries your whole family line along with you.
When has simply feeling safe made a hard problem seem smaller?
