In plain words

The One is the true friend — the companion who never leaves you, here or anywhere beyond.

Delights that vanish in a blink are only small, passing things.

The One cherishes us and gives us everything we need, and with every single breath, watches over us.

The truest friend is the one who is with you through everything and never leaves.
The deeper layer

A true friend is one who never leaves.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Eet oot nahee beechhurhai so sangee ganee-ai — call that one your companion who never leaves you, here or beyond. Sangee means companion.

Set against this is alap sukh, a small pleasure that vanishes in a blink. Think of a sugar rush. It is fun for ten minutes, then it is gone. A true friend is still there tomorrow. The One is that friend. Saas saas sammaaltaa mayraa parabh so-ee — with every breath, my Beloved takes care of us.

A Question to Sit With

What makes someone a real friend — not just a fun one, but one who stays?
