Wonder Beyond Words

ਅਛਲ ਅਛੇਦ ਅਪਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਊਚਾ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਰੂਪੁ ॥
achhal achhayd apaar parabh oochaa jaa kaa roop.
God is undeceiveable, impenetrable and infinite; His form is lofty and exalted.

Chanting and meditating on the embodiment of wonder and beauty, His humble servants are in bliss. ||3||

In plain words

The One cannot be tricked or worn down or fenced in, and is higher and more beautiful than words can hold.

Turning toward such wonder, the humble live in pure delight — amazed, and lit up by beauty.

Wonder itself can fill you with delight when you let yourself be amazed.
The deeper layer

The One is a wonder too big for words.

Achhal achhayd apaar parabh — the One cannot be tricked, cannot be broken, and has no end. Facing the achraj aanoop, the wonder beyond compare, brings anand, which means deep delight.

Think of the first time you saw the ocean, or a sky full of stars. All you could say was "wow." That feeling is the Wahe in Waheguru, the gasp of wonder at the heart of Sikh praise. It is what this verse is about.

A Question to Sit With

When was the last time something took your breath away with how amazing it was?
