Do not fall in love with trivial things; in the end, they shall not go along with you.

Worship and adore the Lord with your mind and body, O Beloved Saint of the Lord; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall be released from bondage. ||2||

In plain words

Don't hand your whole heart to things that fade away — in the end they can't come with you.

With your whole self, turn toward the One you love; in the Sangat, the knots that bind you quietly come loose.

It is wiser to give your deepest love to what lasts than to what quickly fades.
The deeper layer

Give your heart to what lasts.

tis si-o na laa-ee-ai heet jaa ko kichh naahee beet — do not give your heart to things that pass. In the end, they cannot come with you. Think of a balloon from a fair. It is bright for a day, and then it drifts away.

Instead, man tan too aaraaDh har — with your mind and body, cherish the One. Do it in the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. There, tayray banDhan chhootai, the knots that bind you come loose.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you love that will still matter to you many years from now?
