In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Remember the One, remember the One, remember the One, my dear.

The One carries you across strife and struggle, over grasping and clinging, and past even the roughest waters.

With every breath, through day and night, keep the One in your heart; in the Sangat, remember the One without a trace of fear, and hold the treasure of the Naam in your mind.

A steady, loving rhythm of remembering can carry you through the roughest days.
The deeper layer

Remember the One again and again, with every breath.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. har ayk simar ayk simar ayk simar pi-aaray — remember the One, remember the One, remember the One, my dear. Said three times, it is like a heartbeat. It carries you across strife, greed, and clinging, over bha-ojal, the rough sea of life.

Do this saas saas, with every breath, day and night. Then comes saaDhsang: the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. And nisang, without fear or holding back. In the Sangat, you can hold the treasure of the Name freely and without fear.

A Question to Sit With

What is a calming rhythm or habit that helps steady you when things get hard?
