With the Lord's lotus feet enshrined in his heart, Nanak has tied the Shabad, the Word of the True Guru, to the hem of his robe. ||2||7||38||

In plain words

You are pure joy and celebration, and Your words are so beautiful they taste like sweetness itself.

With the One's gentle presence kept in my heart, I've tied the teacher's word to me. I knot it into the corner of my robe, the way you keep something precious, so I never lose it.

Keep what is precious knotted close, where it cannot slip away.
The deeper layer

The Guru's words are so precious that you keep them tied to you, where they cannot get lost.

Tumray bachan anoop rasaal — Your words are like nothing else, and full of sweetness. Then comes an old village picture. People had no pockets or purses. To keep something precious safe, they tied it in a knot at the corner of their robe. That is baaDhi-o paal, tying it into the hem.

Guru Nanak ties the Shabad — the Guru's word — there. Today it might be like keeping a note from someone you love tucked inside your phone case, always with you. The teaching is not heard once and forgotten. It travels with you wherever you go.

A Question to Sit With

What is one saying or truth you'd like to 'tie into your robe' and carry everywhere?
