The Giver of peace has blended Nanak with Himself; the Lord has preserved his honor. ||2||12||43||

In plain words

My tongue is happily lost in the One — the very source of all sweetness.

I'm coloured through with love, resting my heart at the One's gentle feet, which are a treasure all by themselves.

Because I was always the One's own, the One kept me safe — that is simply how perfect this love is. The Giver of peace folded me in, and my honor was held.

Because you belong to the One, you are already being kept.
The deeper layer

I belong to the One, and so the One keeps me safe.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Rasnaa raam rasaa-in maatee — my tongue is happily lost in the One. Rasaa-in means the source of all sweetness. It is like a favorite song you cannot stop humming.

Jis kaa saa tin hee rakh lee-aa — I belonged to the One, so the One kept me. The keeping comes from belonging, not from making a deal. A parent never asks a child to earn a seatbelt. Mayl lee-o aapay — the One brought me close. The joining is the One's own doing.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to be so at ease with someone that you know they've got you?
