Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Your servant wakes right up in love with the Naam, bright and alive.
All the heaviness drains out of the body, and the whole self leans toward the Beloved.
Wherever I look, the One is there — the single thread that every heart is strung upon, like beads on one string. Drinking the cool water of the Name, I find I've let every lesser craving go.
Love for the Name wakes us up, and the One is the thread through every heart.
This verse holds the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Tayraa jan raam naam rang jaagaa — Your loved one wakes up in the love of the Name. Aalas chheej ga-i-aa — all the laziness melts away. It is like jumping out of bed on your birthday.
Sagal ghataa meh taagaa — the One is the thread through every heart. Picture a necklace. Every bead is different, but one string runs through them all. That is the oneness under every separate life.
If everyone were a bead on the same string, how might you treat the person next to you?
