He chants the Name of the Fearless Lord, and is imbued with the Lord's Love. ||3||

In plain words

A heart crosses the great ocean of life in the Sangat.

So keep the Name of the Fearless One, and let yourself be colored through with that love.

You cross the hardest waters together, in the Sangat.
The deeper layer

You cross the big ocean of life together, in the Sangat.

Saagar tari-aa saaDhoo sangay — the ocean is crossed in the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. Picture a team rowing one boat together across a wide lake. Each one helps the others reach the far side.

Nirbha-o naam is the Name of the Fearless One. It echoes nirbhau, "without fear," a word from the Mool Mantar, the opening lines of the Guru Granth Sahib.

Har rangay — dyed in the One's love. This carries on the picture of color that runs through the shabad.

A Question to Sit With

Who are the people you'd want beside you crossing something hard?
