Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Let me stay in love with the beauty of the One.
This alone is my whole prayer.
Sometimes the whole of prayer is one clear wish.
Everything we might ask for comes down to one wish: to love the One.
charan kamal si-o laaga-o nayhu — let my love stay fastened to the lotus feet. Kamal means lotus, a flower that stands for beauty and purity. The lotus feet are a picture of the One's beauty and nearness.
naanak kee baynantee ayh — this is Nanak's whole prayer. It is like a wish list that gets shorter and shorter until only one thing is left. Everything shrinks to a single, clear wish.
A Question to Sit With
If your whole heart's wish were one sentence, what would it say?
