In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Why go off searching for the One out in the far forest?

The One who lives inside everything, always free and untouched, is right here with you — your closest companion, closer than your own breath.

What you're searching far for is already right here with you.
The deeper layer

You do not need to go far to find the One. The One is already with you.

Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Guru, begins by gently turning us around. This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Kaahay ray ban khojan jaa-ee — why go searching in the forest?

Sarab nivaasee sadaa alaypaa — the One lives in everything, yet stays untouched by it. And tohee sang samaa-ee — the One is already with you, part of you.

It is like searching the whole house for your phone while you are talking on it. The search outside is not needed.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever looked everywhere for something that was with you the whole time?
