Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Simply being in the presence of the good is itself a cleansing -- more than any ceremony. In their kindness, remembering the Name comes easily, almost on its own.
This is the pause line, the rahaa-o, the center of the shabad.
It says that just seeing good people is the perfect cleansing bath. Sant kaa daras pooran isnaan: daras is the sight of them, and pooran isnaan is a full, perfect bath. And sant kirpaa tay japee-ai naam: by their kindness, one comes to remember the Name.
Think of how a friend who loves reading makes you want to read too. You don't have to force it. Good company works like that. Remembering the Name starts to feel natural instead of forced. Teachers of Gurbani read this as good company doing what a ceremony reaches for.
Have you noticed that around certain people, being your best self feels easy?
