Verse 4 of 5

Shared Praise Eases the Deep Dread of Change

ਸੁਣਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਸਾਧ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
sun keertan saaDh peh jaa-ay.
Listen to the Kirtan of His Praises, at the Feet of the Holy.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਮਿਟਾਇ ॥੩॥
janam maran kee taraas mitaa-ay. ||3||
Your fears of birth and death shall depart. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Go and listen to the songs of praise among the good. Doing so, the fear of endings and beginnings -- the deep dread of change -- quietly leaves you.

Shared songs of praise quietly ease the deep dread of change.
The deeper layer

Sun keertan saadh peh jaa-ay -- listen to kirtan in the company of the holy. Janam maran kee traas mitaa-ay -- the fear of birth and death departs. The ears join the catalogue. Traas (dread) of the whole cycle of change is soothed by shared song -- we keep this as release from fear, never as fear itself.

A Question to Sit With

What kind of music or gathering makes your fears feel smaller?
