Verse 2 of 5

Sinking Into Love, Not Gripping, Brings Peace

ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥
dukh binsay sukh har gun gaa-ay.
Your pain shall depart, and in peace, you shall sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur pooraa bhayti-aa liv laa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Meeting the Perfect Guru, let yourself be absorbed in the Lord's Love. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Lean like that, and pain lifts and peace comes as you sing what is good. Meeting the complete teacher, let yourself sink into that love and simply be carried.

Sinking into love, rather than gripping and controlling, is what brings peace.
The deeper layer

The Rahao. Dukh binsay sukh har gun gaa-ay -- pain ends, peace comes through praise. Gur pooraa bhayti-aa liv laa-ay -- meeting the perfect teacher, attach your love (liv). Liv is the thread of loving attention (see 358). The pause line promises that letting go into that love, rather than gripping, is what brings the peace.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you enjoy so much that you lose yourself in it and forget to worry?
