One Simple Thing Carried Faithfully Lifts Anxiety

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ॥
har kaa naam dee-o gur mantar.
The Guru has given me the Mantra of the Name of the Lord.
ਮਿਟੇ ਵਿਸੂਰੇ ਉਤਰੀ ਚਿੰਤ ॥੨॥
mitay visooray utree chint. ||2||
My worries are forgotten, and my anxiety is gone. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The teacher gave me one simple thing to carry: the Name. And with it, my worries were forgotten and the weight of anxiety lifted right off me.

One simple thing carried faithfully lifts the weight of anxiety.
The deeper layer

Har kaa naam dee-o gur mantar -- the teacher gave the Name as mantra. Mitay visooray utree chint -- worries forgotten, anxiety lifted. Visooray are gnawing worries; chint is anxiety (again framed as something healed). One small thing carried faithfully outperforms all the cleverness set down in verse one.

A Question to Sit With

If you could carry just one calming thought with you all day, what would it be?
