ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
kaho naanak gur pooraa paa-i-aa.
Says Nanak, I have found the Perfect Guru;
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੫੩॥੧੨੨॥
taa tay bahur na bi-aapai maa-i-aa. ||4||53||122||
Maya shall no longer harass me. ||4||53||122||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I have found the complete teacher -- and now the endless tug of grasping and craving no longer runs my life. I am free of its pull.
Finding what is steady, the endless tug of craving loses its power over you.
The final closing couplet. Gur pooraa paa-i-aa -- I found the perfect teacher. Bahur na bi-aapai maa-i-aa -- maa-i-aa (the pull of illusion and craving) no longer harasses. The shabad ends where it began -- with the teacher -- but now the cleverness set down in verse one is replaced by freedom from the very grasping that cleverness served.
A Question to Sit With
What is something that used to pull at you constantly that bothers you less now?
