The Word Walks Beside You, and All Beings Turn Kind

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
gur kaa sabad tayrai sang sahaa-ee.
The Word of the Guru's Shabad is your Companion and Helper.
ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏ ਸਗਲੇ ਜੀਅ ਭਾਈ ॥੩॥
da-i-aal bha-ay saglay jee-a bhaa-ee. ||3||
O Siblings of Destiny, all beings shall be kind to you. ||3||

In plain words

The teacher's word walks beside you as a companion and helper. And as you soften, you will find that living beings around you turn kind toward you too, brother.

The Word walks beside you as a companion, and all beings, the shabad says, become kind.
The deeper layer

Gur kaa sabad tayrai sang sahaa-ee -- the teacher's Word is your companion and helper. Da-i-aal bha-ay saglay jee-a bhaa-ee -- all beings become kind. Sabad (the Word) is a living companion, not a text on a shelf. And there is a lovely social note — the shabad declares the kindness rather than explaining it; hearing it as your own heart softening and the world meeting you with more kindness is one reflection, not the mechanism the verse names.

A Question to Sit With

Have you noticed that when you are kind and calm, people around you tend to soften too?
