Bow to Goodness and the Exhausting Spin Rests

ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਹੁ ॥

Renounce your arrogant pride, and end the cycle of birth and death.
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਹੁ ॥੨॥
har kay daas kay charan namaskaarahu. ||2||
Bow in humility to the feet of the Lord's slave. ||2||

In plain words

Set down the heavy pride that makes you feel separate and alone. And bow — with real humility — to the ones who serve the One. There is no shame in lowering yourself before goodness; it is how the endless spinning of striving finally comes to rest.

Set down your pride and bow to goodness — that is where the exhausting spin comes to rest.
The deeper layer

Put down your pride and bow to those who serve the One. Then the tiring spin comes to rest.

Taj abhimaan janam maran nivaarahu — give up abhimaan, and end the round of birth and death. Abhimaan is swollen pride, the feeling of being a separate, special self. Janam maran means birth and death. Traditionally it is the cycle of being born again and again. It can also be heard as the treadmill of ego, the tiring round of striving and running out.

Har kay daas kay charan namaskaarahu — bow at the feet of the One's servants. This is not putting yourself down. It is the healthiest thing a proud heart can do. Think of a wall built brick by brick between you and everyone else. Bowing takes the wall down.

A Question to Sit With

When has lowering yourself before someone good actually made you feel bigger, not smaller?
