Gather the One Wealth That Goes With You

ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥
saas saas parabh maneh samaalay.
Remember God in your mind, with each and every breath.
ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਜੋ ਚਾਲੈ ਨਾਲੇ ॥੩॥
so Dhan sanchahu jo chaalai naalay. ||3||
Gather only that wealth, which shall go with you. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

With every breath you take, keep the One held gently in your mind. And gather the one kind of wealth that will actually travel with you — not toys or money or applause, but the treasure of a heart that remembers.

Gather the one kind of wealth that goes with you: a heart that remembers.
The deeper layer

Remember the One with every breath, and gather the one wealth you can take with you.

Saas saas parabh maneh samaalay — breath by breath, keep the One in mind. Remembering becomes as steady as breathing.

Then comes the big question. So dhan sanchahu jo chaalai naalay — gather only the wealth that goes with you. Everything else stays behind. Think of a school trip where you can bring only one small bag. You would pack what matters most. What goes with you is the growing knowing of the One. Tradition calls it the Naam, the Name, which the soul carries forward.

A Question to Sit With

If you could only keep one thing forever, what would actually be worth keeping?
