Separated from Him for countless incarnations, we are now reunited with Him. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

By grace I became comfortable and at ease. It felt like being reunited — after a very long time apart — with someone I had been missing without even knowing it.

Coming to the One feels like being reunited with something you belong to and had been missing.
The deeper layer

This one says that coming to the One feels like a reunion.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Parabh kirpaa tay bha-ay suhaylay — by the One's grace, we have become suhaylay, comfortable and at ease.

Janam janam kay bichhuray maylay — those apart for many lifetimes are brought together again. The traditional reading is many lifetimes of being apart from the One. For a child, the feeling is just as true. It is the ache of missing something you belong to, and the relief of coming home to it.

Think of coming back from a long trip and running into the arms of someone who has been waiting for you. Grace closes the distance.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you belong to that you feel most at home returning to?
