naam ratan vasai man aa-ay. ||1||
The jewel of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell in the mind. ||1||

In plain words

Remember the One, and the aches inside you quietly leave. Then the Name — the most precious jewel there is — comes to live inside your mind and settles in to stay.

Remember the One, and the Name settles into your mind like a jewel that stays.
The deeper layer

Remember the One, and the Name comes to live in your mind like a jewel that stays.

Jis simrat dookh sabh jaa-ay — remembering the One, all pain goes away. Simran is this remembering, keeping the One in mind.

Naam ratan vasai man aa-ay — the jewel of the Name comes to live in the mind. Naam is the Name, the living presence of the One. A ratan is a jewel. Calling the Name a jewel says it is the one thing we have that is truly worth something and truly lasts.

Vasai means it comes to live there. It moves in. It is not a visitor who drops by and leaves. Think of a friend who comes for one night compared with family who live in your home.

A Question to Sit With

What good thing would you most want to come and stay inside your mind?
