Verse 2 of 5

Trust the Flow and Fear Finds Nothing to Grip

ਭਉ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾ ॥
bha-o na vi-aapai tayree sarnaa.
Fear does not affect those who take to Your Sanctuary.
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo tuDh bhaavai so-ee karnaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You do whatever You please. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Fear cannot take hold of the one who rests in your shelter. Whatever unfolds, I trust it — I let what is meant to be, be.

Resting in shelter and trusting the flow, fear finds nothing to grip.
The deeper layer

Resting in the One's shelter and trusting what unfolds leaves fear nothing to grab onto.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Bha-o na vi-aapai tayree sarnaa — fear does not grip those who rest in Your shelter. Jo tuDh bhaavai so-ee karnaa — let whatever pleases You be done.

This is trust in Hukam, the flow of existence. It is not giving up or doing nothing. It is the deep ease of someone who has stopped fighting the current. Think of floating on your back in a river instead of thrashing against it. When you stop fighting the current, fear has nothing left to grip.

A Question to Sit With

What would change if you trusted that things could unfold the way they need to?
