Chasing Flavors Never Fills; One Thing Feeds

ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਲਗੈ ਅਨ ਸੁਆਇ ॥
naam bisaar lagai an su-aa-ay.
Forgetting the Naam, and attached to other tastes,
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਨ ਪੂਜੈ ਕਾਇ ॥੩॥
taa kee aas na poojai kaa-ay. ||3||
no desires are fulfilled. ||3||

In plain words

When you forget the Name, you chase after other flavors instead. Then the hunger they promise to fill never gets filled.

Chasing flavor after flavor never fills the hunger; only one thing actually feeds.
The deeper layer

Chasing one flavor after another never fills you up. Only one thing really feeds.

Naam bisaar lagai an su-aa-ay — forgetting the Name, a person gets hooked on other tastes. Su-aa-ay means tastes or flavors. Taa kee aas na poojai kaa-ay — none of those hopes ever comes true.

Think of snacking on chips when you are really hungry for dinner. Each bag promises to fill you. Then you want another one. The world is full of things like that, each one promising to be the thing that finally satisfies. The Name is the one flavor that actually feeds. The rest leave you hungry again.

A Question to Sit With

What have you chased hoping it would satisfy you, only to want more right after?
